Here we see a few of the guys working on the table tops.

All of the benches completed and looking great!

Recently around 12 guys with the Men’s Ministry of Crossroads Community Covenant Church here in Yelm, came out to Cascades for a volunteer work day.  In a few short hours, these gentlemen built 12 new picnic tables to be used around Liberty Ridge Campground.

Thank you to all the men of Crossroads who came out and made this project happen!

Cascades Insider – May 7, 2009

The Quilters are Here, the Quilters are Here!

Right now Cascades has over 80 women staying with us in Timberidge lodge.  But these aren’t just any ladies…these ladies are quilting extraordinaires.  They have taken over Rainier Center and set-up their quilting stations to enjoy one another’s company as they work diligently on some exquisite pieces!

HEAR the Word Wednesday – May 6, 2009

“That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”
-2 Corinthians 12:10-

I’m not really sure why, but over the last week or so, the word “strength” has been on my mind and heart.  I am becoming more and more aware that I need to reevaluate my understanding of what it means to be strong.  I imagine that if I were to ask a few random folks what their understanding of “strength” is, their first reaction, and perhaps mine as well, would be to give answers along these lines:  physical power, self sufficiency, authority, wealth or financial success, etc…but I am not convinced that any of these things even begin to come close to a true understanding of strength.

Looking into God’s Word, it is clear that this world’s understanding of strength is not guided by God (1 Corinthians 1:27-28).  As Christian’s, our understanding of strength, should be drawn from God alone – and can be defined as closeness to the things that God is close to!

Let me explain a bit further…

When your heart is driven by God, you have strength of heart.  When your mind pursues the things of above, you have strength of mind.  When your character is aligned with that of Christ, you have strength of character.  When your faith relies on God alone, you have strength of faith.  And so on.

When we realize that as humans of this world, we are indeed weak, and it is only in Christ that we can accomplish anything, then and only then can we count ourselves as strong.

So, we shall delight in our weaknesses, because in them we are more prone to open ourselves to God, asking Him to come and intervene, and be the Strong God that we desire, need, and cannot be on our own!

Blessings,

Dirt

Prayer Requests – May 5, 2009

 Current Prayer Requests Include:

  • Every year it is our prayer request that God would bring campers and guests to Cascades so that He can bless their lives.  Please join with us in praying for God’s chosen campers to come and experience Him at Cascades.
  • Several of our year-round staff (and their families) have been bogged down with coughs, colds, etc…  Please pray for healing so that we all can serve 100% during this busy time of year as we prepare for campers, guests and staff to arrive.
  • Continue to pray for all the preparations going on around Cascades.  From construction projects – finishing the last log cabin, building the climbing wall, reconstructing Deep Woods chapel,  to all the program projects – planning for the Rainier Kids Day Camp, working on Bible Studies, prepping for the Spring Weekends, etc…  It is our prayer that God would always have His hand in the planning process for everything done at Cascades.

The BIG Reveal – May 1, 2009

Here it is folks…

The news you’ve all been waiting for…

This year we are building a CLIMBING WALL at Camp Timber Rock!!! Built on the side of the water tower, and standing at 50 ft. tall, the Climbing Wall will likely look something like this:

Make sure you’re signed up for an action-packed week at Cascades – this new Climbing Wall is just the beginning of taking Camp Timber Rock to the next level!

Here’s another new offer to keep in mind!  Over the last few years we’ve offered a “Buddy Bucks Bonus”, which is a discount given to returning campers when they invite a friend that has never been to Cascades before, both children receive $25 off their registration fee. We’re now allowing you to “stack” multiples of this discount on top of each other, and even offering that once you fill an entire cabin with new invited friends (7 campers) not only can everyone stay together but YOUR WEEK AT CAMP IS FREE! As you think about those kids from school, the soccer team, or church to invite to camp, know that both our sponsorship and our full-ride scholarship funds are ready to ensure that absolutely no child is denied a camp experience because of any finical hardships or even simply a need to trim family budgets this year.
