Grow in Faith, Leadership, Wisdom and Maturity

The ministry of Cascades depends on the sincere faith, honest leadership, humble wisdom and patient maturity of those who work together to “make camp happen.” Interns also spend time in group devotional time and Bible study with other interns and staff members. As a part of the Cascades internship program, we expect that interns work with their supervisors and fellow interns to grow their own skills. Supervisors will also provide insight into where there is room for growth as well as where interns exceed in these areas. Interns will be given opportunities to exercise these skills during their time at Cascades.

Internship positions include:

Food Services Intern:  The kitchen intern works in tandem with the Food Services Manager to provide delicious and healthy meals to campers, guests, and staff members staying at Cascades Camp and Conference Center. The kitchen intern serves guests through the preparation and presentation of food, and will receive training in these areas. This work is vital in making Cascades a welcoming and restful place for groups to retreat at.

Specific duties Include, but are not limited to:

• General Summer Planning
• Ordering food from our food providers
• Planning menus for guest groups and campers
• Planning and running spring/summer kids’ culinary camps
• Assembling and leading a kitchen crew
• Cooking and preparing meals
• Serving food to guest groups
• Cleaning of the camp facilities with other interns as a team
• Assisting in guest group services, including dining and meal service, activities, hosting and more
• Leading/mentoring fellow staff/SALTs when they come out to volunteer
• Working with retreat groups using own gifts and skills
• Leading conference center kitchen crews both in food service as well as spiritually
• Serving wherever asked (living with a servant’s heart)
   

Operations Intern:  The Operations Intern works in tandem with the Operations Manager in facilities and equipment maintenance and grounds keeping at Cascades Camp and Conference Center. Ensuring the overall guest readiness of our facilities and grounds, and supporting the various programmatic needs of the camp, the Operations department serves Cascades in a very “behind the scenes” manner. This is vital work in fulfilling our mission and the Operations Intern is a huge player in this endeavor. The operations intern helps to provide a safe and beautiful place for guests to rest and retreat.

Specific duties Include, but are not limited to:

• Housekeeping and cleaning of facilities alone and with other interns as a team
• Lodge and facilities preparation for guests
• Repair and maintenance of facilities on an as needed basis
• Grounds keeping including lawn care and landscape design
• Assistance with building and construction of Cascades Camp improvements
• Minor vehicle and equipment maintenance and repair as needed
• Assisting in guest group services, including dining and meal service, activities, hosting and more
• Leading/mentoring fellow staff/SALTs when they come out to volunteer
• Working with retreat groups using own gifts and skills
• Serving wherever asked (living with a servant’s heart)
  

Program Intern:  The program intern works in tandem with the Program Director and works on planning, promoting and carrying out the programs at Cascades Camp & Conference Center. The program intern will participate and receive training in the areas of programming, leadership development and training, marketing, promotion and how to incorporating one’s faith into all aspects of life—in this case, the workplace.

Specific duties Include, but are not limited to:

• Preparation of marketing and promotional materials (Reflections Newsletter, Grand Brochure, etc…)
• General summer planning
• Interviewing summer staff applicants as needed
• Website maintenance
• Cleaning of the camp facilities with other interns as a team
• Assisting in guest group services, including dining and meal service, activities, espresso, hosting and more
• Leading/mentoring fellow staff/SALTs when they come out to volunteer
• Plan and cary out the SALT Retreat(s)
• Help plan and carry out the Spring Adventure Weekends
• Serving wherever asked (living with a servant’s heart)
  

Ranch Intern:  The Ranch Intern works in tandem with the Ranch Manager in care of horses, ranch grounds, tack, and guest ranch activities at Cascades Camp and Conference Center. This position allows guest groups and campers to experience God and his creation through riding horses. The ranch intern must come with some horse and riding experience.

Specific duties Include, but are not limited to:

• Feeding/care of herd
• Leading guest group activities (i.e. trail rides, hay rides, pony rides)
• Exercising and training horses
• Maintenance of ranch facilities/tack
• Leading home school horse classes
• Cleaning of camp with other interns as a team
• Assisting in guest group services, including dining and meal service, activities,hosting and more
• Leading/mentoring fellow staff/SALTs when they come out to volunteer
• Working with retreat groups using own gifts and skills
• Serving wherever asked (living with a servant’s heart)
